Broadway Jazz Classes

Jazz dance includes many types of dance, all of which have been influenced by African-American rhythms and dance, jazz music, tap and ballet (danceconnectionrochester.com). Broadway Jazz dance has developed in coordination with live-stage musical theater. This form of dance is all about the show and the story.

 

Jazz/Tap ages 9-10 

This class teaches how to dance on Broadway with the emphasis being on developing one’s showmanship and how to connect with an audience. The dance technique has it’s foundations in jazz, but will be stylized through the different Broadway musical excerpts that we focus on throughout the year.

Broadway Jazz ages 11-12

Students continue to develop showmanship and how to connect with an audience. Increased levels of jazz technique are presented as well as greater exposure to different Broadway musicals.

Jazz ages 12+ Beginner/Intermediate

Students continue to develop showmanship and how to connect with an audience. Students must have a least two years of dance. More advanced levels of jazz technique are presented as well as greater exposure to different Broadway musicals.

Jazz ages 12+ Intermediate/Advanced

This is an intermediate/advanced level class and students must have at least three years of dance. Students continue to develop showmanship and how to connect with an audience. More advanced jazz technique is presented as well as opportunities to incorporate acting, singing and props.
