DRESS REHEARSAL (Mandatory)
Friday, June 16
Participation is MANDATORY. Dancers rehearse on the large performance stage where all lighting, music cues, entrance/exits, and choreography spacing are set and finalized. It helps dancers feel confident and ready to perform in front of an audience, which is critical to having an enjoyable, successful performance.
LOCATION: Sisters High School Auditorium
TIME: Arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled stage time. See posted schedules by time and by age/class.
WHAT TO WEAR / COSTUME CHANGES:
– Arrive in the first costume with stage-ready hair and makeup.
– If needed, the hallway bathrooms are available for changing as needed (please do not use the backstage rooms).
– We also recommend wearing a nude leotard under costumes for ease of changing costumes.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
– Please sit in the assigned row until your dancer’s class is called to line up.
– Dancers MUST remain in the auditorium unless changing or eating a quick snack in the Commons area.
– No food or beverages are allowed in the auditorium except for water bottles.
– Ages 3-11 need to have a chaperone. A chaperone is not required for ages 12+.

COSTUME / HAIR / MAKEUP DETAILS
**COSTUMES**
* You provide costume pieces marked with an *asterisk. If the costume list includes tights, those were provided. Details included by age/class below.
Take special care of costumes and make sure they are free of wrinkles
Label everything. Write your child’s name on ALL costume pieces, shoes, accessories, tights, etc with your child’s name and place them in a labeled garment bag. Place accessories in a labeled clear ziploc bag.
Washing: Do not wash costumes.
Ironing: Do not use a traditional iron. Silks can burn, sequins can melt, and fabric colors may change. Please use only a steam iron or hand held steamer and use caution because glues that attach appliques and/or trim can easily melt. Or, hang in the bathroom during a shower.
Tutus: Grasp the waist and give it a gentle shake, then use your fingers to “comb” out any pieces of tulle that are wrinkled. To store a tutu, put it on a hanger upside down. To help remove persistent wrinkles, hang the tutu in the bathroom during a shower or use a handheld steamer.
**SHOES**
Jazz: black; Ballet: pink; Tap: black; Contemporary: nude half-soles; Hip Hop: check details. There is a small selection of free and discounted options in the office, but please reach out as soon as possible!!
**HAIR**
Bobby pins. You only need about four to secure a bun. Yes, seriously.
And, hair nets are amazing. Ask Jenica for a quick tutorial that will save you so much time and frustration!!

How to slick back hair for a bun or ponytail?
Video: Perfecting a Perfect Ballerina Bun | Brown Haired Bliss (tip: start with wet hair, comb gel through the hair, and use cheap aerosol hairspray at the end to keep it slick)
**MAKEUP**
Jewlrey: No jewelry, except for small diamond studs if ears are pierced.
What is the purpose of stage makeup?
The intention is not to make your child look older, but rather to enhance your child’s features so they are clearly seen from the stage and not washed-out by the stage lights. This is true for both boys and girls. This is a great article!
How to prevent lipstick from smudging/smearing?
– Cover the entire lip with a lipliner pencil in a color that is similar to the lipstick.
– Dab the lipstick overtop (matte options work better than glossy)
– Blot lipstick with tissue.
– Press a light application of translucent powder or finishing powder overtop. Or, spritz with setting spray.
How to apply makeup for the stage?
Video: Smokey Eye Dance Makeup Tutorial
– Foundation: Select a skin-tone color. No need to go darker than usual.
– Blush: Applied on the cheekbones, heavier than everyday wear to counteract the one-dimensional effects of the foundation.
– Bronzer and Contouring: Can help define facial features, but it is a personal preference. There are many youtube tutorials on this.
– Finishing Powder or Setting Spray: Creates a matte finish to reduce shine that reflects light and causes shadows.
– Eyeshadow: Use a neutral palette (e.g. grays, browns) that works with your skin tone, but apply much heavier than everyday wear. Begin with a lighter neutral color (e.g. light gray) across the entire eye lid. Apply a darker shade (e.g. dark gray) across the eye socket. Use a very light or white shade under the eyebrow to highlight.
– Eyeliner: Black with a slight extended wing.
– Mascara: Black, waterproof to prevent smudging and flaking.
– Lip liner & Lipstick: Red color that works well with skin tone. A long-wear matte works best. Glossy lipsticks tend to smear.
MAKEUP: red lipstick and blush, mascara is optional. No nail polish.

RECITAL PERFORMANCES
Saturday, June 17, 1:00 & 6:30 PM
All ticket sales should be made online. Seats will be limited. Use the handy show roster tool to determine which is the best show for you to see the dancers you wish to see.
Check-In / Arrival
- Dancers need to arrive stage-ready (costume, hair, makeup) for their first numbers, no later than 30 minutes prior to show time. See Class Details section for more info.
- Check-in is located in the hallway to the right of the auditorium. All dancers need to sign in at the table.
- 3-11 years old: parent/guardians need to sign in their dancers and receive a sticker with the dancer’s name on it, which will be used as the “ticket” to enter backstage and pick up your child at the end of the show.
- 12+ years old: dancers do not need a parent for check-in but must sign in.
- Once checked in, dancers must stay backstage (in the choir or band room) and may not leave until the show is finished. This includes not going to the commons area during intermission. The only exception being our 3-5 year old dancers who may be picked up during intermission.
Check-Out / Departure
- Your dancer’s name sticker will be your “ticket” to enter backstage and pick up your child.
- For the safety of our dancers, only ONE adult per dancer/family may go backstage to the choir/band rooms.
- 3-5 year olds: parents may pick up young dancers during intermission, but not during the performance.
FOR FRIENDS & FAMILY
- Flower Sales: Before each performance and during intermission, single roses with babys breath and ferns will be available to purchase for $5. A great gift for you dancer!
- Family members and friends are not permitted backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsals or the recital, including during intermission and before and after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space, and dressing rooms are private areas. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas. Those who wish to greet performers after the show or present flowers may do so in the lobby areas.
- Please do not leave the auditorium if at all possible. It is very distracting to the performers and the audience. If there is an urgent matter, ushers will only allow doors to open between numbers.
- Enthusiastic applause is encouraged, but it is not appropriate to yell a child’s name.
- No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed in the auditorium.

- Suggested to bring, but not mandatory (there will be a supply box in the room with these items): wet wipes, tissues, bobby pins, safety pins, hairspray, hair ties, etc.
DO NOT BRING: Anything that can make a mess on the carpet or costumes: glitter, glue, markers, paint, messy candy or crumbly treats.
ARRIVAL
Group leaders and room helpers need to arrive 45 minutes before the start of the show. We will have a brief meeting with the backstage manager then you will get set up in your “area.” If you have a dancer performing, they may arrive with you.
Dancers will check in 30 minutes prior to the show. Once they’ve arrived to your group please help them get settled and mark them on your list that they have arrived. As dancers arrive, confirm with their parent that they have ALL costume pieces and check hair and makeup (a list will be provided in your folder).
Five minutes before show time tell backstage manager (Jenica) if anyone from your group is missing.
DURING THE SHOW
A “runner” will be circulating and telling groups when it is time to start the line up process, or if their line up process will be starting soon. This is when to do the final check of costumes and hair/makeup.
LINEUP PROCESS
The performance order will be hanging in the room. Jenica will keep it updated.
The lineup process can easily feel hectic, rushed and overwhelming, especially for younger or first-time performers. Help them feel prepared by explaining the process ahead of time.
- Pre-LineUp Prep (about 5-6 songs before your group performs) Jenica will be around to give you a 10-minute warning. This is when dancers will remove their masks and apply their lipstick. Masks will need to remain with the dancer’s belongings and put back on when done performing and back to the choir/band room.
- Area 1: In the band/choir room, at the door to the main hallway (3 songs before your group performs) Please help dancers lineup in their stage order if applicable. This is a good time for dancers to warm up: jog in place, jumping jacks, & stretch (working from head to toe).
- Area 2: In the hallway, outside the stage door (2 songs before your group performs) A volunteer (Ben) will be stationed at this door and will let dancers know when it’s time to move to side stage.
FINALE and CHECK OUT PROCESS
Finale line up will begin several numbers before the end of the show. Before finale line up time, be sure your dancers have gathered and organized all of their belongings. Once all dancers are on stage for finale, you will need to be side stage. Once the finale is over and curtains are closed, we will start dismissing dancers. Teens will be excused first and can check themselves out. We will then begin excusing one group at a time to go with their group leader back to their “station.” You must keep all dancers in your supervision until you receive the dancer’s name sticker from their grown up. This sticker you will place in your folder and the child may leave. Once all the children you are responsible for have checked out, you may clean your area and leave.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
IMPORTANT AREAS TO KNOW ABOUT:
CHANGING AREAS + MIRRORS
There are two changing “booths” and tall mirrors in the band room. Please do not allow dancers to change in the restrooms.

3-5 year olds must be accompanied by an adult; please either go together as a group or have another leader watch your group if you need to attend to needs. Older dancers must use the buddy system.
OTHER AREAS

- Common Area: NO dancers are allowed to leave or go to the common area.
- Main Hallway: If your group would like to stretch their legs for some movement in the hallway, please stay together as a group.
